Bean Day BBQ Lunch
Bean Day is probably known best for the traditional FREE delicious Beans and Barbecue lunch. The beans and barbeque are cooked under the ground in a pit dug at the rodeo grounds. The pit is filled with wood and charcoal and burned all afternoon. At dusk, the 800 lbs. of beef and 300 lbs. of beans are placed in the pit, supports and metal are placed over the pit and covered with ground. In the morning, the pit is uncovered, the temperature of the meat is checked, the feast unearthed and taken to the village park for the giant outdoor banquet of 1,500 or more meals.
The meal is served just to the side of the village park where most people take their meal to enjoy the terrific food, company, a live music performance and dancing.
